Great Migration Tour Overview
Very few wildlife events on earth can genuinely claim to be life-changing. The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of them.
Every year, over two million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle follow an ancient circuit across the Serengeti. Rainfall and instinct drive them forward in a relentless search for fresh grass. When the herds reach the Mara River in northern Tanzania, they must cross it , a crocodile-filled barrier they brave in thundering, chaotic masses.
To witness a crossing is to witness nature at its most raw. Hundreds of thousands of animals gather at the bank. Then one leaps. The herd surges. Crocodiles lunge from the water. Finally, breathless and trembling, the animals emerge on the far side. It is unforgettable.
This 7-day itinerary covers the full arc of the migration experience. Three days in the central Serengeti give you time with the vast herds and the predators that shadow them. Then three nights in the north, near the Mara River, put you at the centre of the crossing drama.
Beyond the migration, the Serengeti’s resident lions, leopards, and cheetahs remain active year-round. Seven days. One of the greatest shows on earth.

Day-by-Day Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha – Central Serengeti
Transfer from Arusha to Central Serengeti via the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands route. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive in the famous Seronera Valley, where resident lion prides and leopards on rocky kopjes guarantee exciting wildlife from day one.
Day 2: Full Day Central Serengeti – Migration Tracking
Spend the entire day tracking the Great Migration in the central zone. Your guide monitors the movement of the herds in real time, positioning you for the best viewing. Wildebeest and zebra cover the plains in their millions, and the predators are never far behind.
Day 3: Central Serengeti – Wildlife & Predator Focus
The central Serengeti’s Seronera Valley is one of the most predator-rich areas in Africa. Today focuses on tracking lions, cheetahs, and leopards with time to witness the extraordinary complexity of life on the Serengeti ecosystem.
Day 4: Transfer to Northern Serengeti – Lamai / Kogatende
Drive north to the Mara River zone , the stage for the most dramatic act in the Great Migration. The northern Serengeti is wilder, more remote, and even more spectacular than the central areas. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive along the river.
Day 5: Mara River Crossings – Full Day
This is what you came for. Thousands of wildebeest build up on the riverbank, driven by instinct toward the Mara’s far bank despite the lurking Nile crocodiles. The tension is unbearable. Then the first animal leaps, and the herd surges forward in a thundering, churning mass. It is raw, powerful, and utterly unforgettable. Your guide knows the crossing points intimately and will get you into perfect position.
Day 6: Northern Serengeti – Full Day Safari
Another extraordinary day in the remote north. When not at the river crossings, explore the open plains and rocky hills of this spectacular landscape for elephant, giraffe, big cats, and the full range of Serengeti wildlife.
Day 7: Morning Safari – Return to Arusha
A final morning in the Serengeti before the drive back to Arusha. Seven days of wilderness leave their mark on you in the best possible way.
