Two days is not a long time, but in Tanzania, two well-chosen days can deliver a lifetime of memories. This 2 Days Tarangire & Ngorongoro Safari brings together two of Northern Tanzania’s most spectacular wildlife destinations into a compact, rewarding itinerary that punches well above its weight.
On Day 1, the vast ecosystems of Tarangire National Park open up before you, enormous elephant herds moving through baobab forests, lions resting in the midday shade, giraffes reaching effortlessly into the treetops. Then on Day 2, you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder so dense with wildlife that it has been called Africa’s Garden of Eden. The crater floor is home to all the Big Five, and sightings of the critically endangered black rhino are more reliably achieved here than almost anywhere else in Africa.
This is our most popular short safari, and it is easy to see why. In just two days, you experience both the open wilderness of a classic game park and the extraordinary theatre of the world’s most famous volcanic caldera. Ideal for travellers extending a Zanzibar holiday, combining safari with business travel to Arusha, or simply wanting a first taste of what Tanzania has to offer.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro
After an early breakfast, your guide meets you in Arusha and you set off for Tarangire National Park. Spend the morning and afternoon on game drives among the iconic baobab trees, spotting elephant herds, buffalo, lion, giraffe, zebra, and numerous bird species.
In the late afternoon, you travel onward to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, winding up through lush highland forests as the altitude rises. The views as you approach the crater rim are simply breathtaking. Dinner and overnight at your lodge perched on the crater rim.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Rise early for one of Africa’s most magical experiences, descending into the Ngorongoro Crater. This ancient volcanic caldera, the world’s largest intact caldera, shelters an astonishing concentration of wildlife within its 260 square kilometres.
As you spiral down the steep crater walls, the landscape transforms into an enclosed paradise. Here you will find lions lazing in the morning sun, massive black rhinos grazing in the distance (one of the best places in Africa to spot them), hippos wallowing in soda lakes, elephants, hyenas, jackals, and vast flocks of flamingos turning the lakeshore pink.
After a memorable crater floor game drive and picnic lunch, ascend back to the rim and return to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon.
